Early-bird registration is $215, and closes on February 26, 2021 at 5pm Eastern. The registration process will automatically discount you to the $215 early-bird rate if your registration is submitted before the early-bird deadline.

Regular registration is $245 starting February 26, 2021 after 5pm Eastern.

Coda Foundations I Online

This Coda Foundations seminar is for Coda interpreters and Coda student interpreters.

The structure of the program is as follows:

One group of 15-18 participants.

We will meet once a week over the course of five weeks for 2 or 3 hours each week (see schedule below).

Each session is activity driven and participant directed, working together in both small and large groups.

Attendance at all five meetings is required to earn 1.3 CEUs in the Professional Studies category at all levels from little knowledge through teaching Content Knowledge levels.

About Coda Foundations I Online

This online offering of Coda Foundations of Interpreting I seminar will meet using Zoom. We will be meeting Wednesdays for 5 weeks. This seminar requires 15 participants to register, with a maximum of 18.

CEUs (through MassRID)

All CEUs are approved through RID's Certification Maintenance Program and Associate Continuing Education Tracking Program. This Professional Studies program is offered at 1.3 PS CEUs/ACETs at all levels (Little/No, Some, Advanced, Teaching) Content Level.

MassRID is an approved RID CMP sponsor for Continuing Education Activities.

Cancellations/Refunds/Accommodations

Cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing (email, text) to the coordinator before March 12th, 2021, in order to receive a full refund. After March 12th, no refunds are available.
If the BMC cancels this training, it will be rescheduled.
Please contact the coordinator to request reasonable accommodations before March 12, 2021, or with any questions about this series.

Registration Deadline

Registration for this seminar will remain open until March 12th at 5pm Eastern time. At that time, if the minimum of 15 registrations has been reached, registration will remain open until filled to capacity. Having less than 15 registrations at that time may mean rescheduling or cancelling of the seminar.

Betty M. Colonomos Bio

Betty M. Colonomos, currently serving as Director of the Bilingual Mediation Center, is a fluent ASL/English bilingual. Her academic background is in Deaf Education/Speech Pathology (B.S.), Counseling (M.A.), Linguistics (Doctoral program). Betty holds the Masters Comprehensive Skills Certificate (MCSC) from RID. She was the second recipient of the Mary Stotler Award for excellence in Interpreter Education from CIT.

Betty has chaired and served on many national committees on standards and evaluation of interpreters and served as President of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT). Ms. Colonomos has authored and appeared in video materials on interpreting and she co-authored (with MJ Bienvenu) videos on Deaf Culture, ASL Facial Grammar, and ASL Numbers. She worked as an International Sign interpreter for numerous conferences worldwide. Betty also consults with schools and the legal system as an expert on linguistic and cultural issues impacting the Deaf Community.

Betty is the developer of the Integrated Model of Interpreting (IMI), which is the most widely used model in the U.S. for teaching cognitive processes in interpreting.

She teaches the Foundations of Interpreting Series for hearing, Coda and Deaf interpreters that combines study of the IMI with a Vygotskian approach to learning.

Betty is the creator of the Etna Project (2002 – present) held in New Hampshire and Maryland. The project is a series of retreats supporting a Community of Reflective Practitioners who are interpreters committed to their own growth as they seek to become agents for change in the field of interpreting.
