IMI Seminars

Covid-19 has changed how we all function in the world today. The familiar Foundations of Interpreting Seminar Series and the Etna Project have been cancelled or moved online. But taking a weekend's worth of a seminar or retreat using zoom is just more than most of us can handle.

In response, BMC has been offering IMI Seminars. These 3-hour online seminars will focus on components of the IMI and various topics related to the interpreting process, cross-cultural communication, social justice, and more.

Some sessions are in ASL and some in spoken English. IMI Seminars conducted in ASL are open to anyone comfortable learning and holding discussion in ASL. These seminars are designed for both working and student interpreters (Deaf, Coda, hearing). There are no prerequisites for this program. Please choose accordingly.

These seminars are offered at a reasonable cost. But BMC has committed to reduced rates for Deaf, BIPOC, and student interpreters. We are using the honor system for these scholarships.

IMI Seminars are presented in either spoken English or ASL, without interpretation.

Seminars facilitated in spoken English without interpretation are open to all English speaking interpreters.

Seminars facilitated in ASL without interpretation offer preference to Deaf Interpreters and Codas.

Some seminars have Foundations I & II as prerequisite.
